What's On
South Birmingham Sinfonia: Spain and beyond
Rossini’s overture to his Seville set “prequel” to The Magic Flute, The Barber of Seville, is followed by Sarasate’s Carmen fantasy paired with Saint-Saens’s virtuoso Introduction and rondo capricioso, both from violin soloist Katy Smith. Our second half opens with Giminez’s intermezzo from his zarzuela, popular Spanish operetta, La boda de Luis Alonso. Falla’s suites from his ballet The Three Cornered Hat brings the sounds and rhythms of Andalusia, and finally we move to Mexico for Marquez’s Danzon No. 2.
