Free art trail and storytimes in Shirley celebrate beautiful bugs and flowers

Families with young children can now enjoy a free art trail in Shirley.

The new flowers and minibeast art trails, which are designed to inspire and educate nursery and infant children, follow six brightly painted utility boxes along the Stratford Road.

Councillor Karen Grinsell, Deputy Leader of the Council and Lead Member for Partnerships and Wellbeing said: “We commissioned Pickle Illustration to turn six dull utility boxes into pieces of public art to brighten up Shirley’s high street and support local businesses.

“It is clear from the feedback we’ve had that people really appreciate these vibrant and gorgeous designs. The new trail sheets are a lovely way of developing the idea further to engage young children in some fun and educational activities, making a trip to our high street more enjoyable for everyone.”

Alongside the art trail, Shirley Library is running two bug-themed storytimes during the half term holidays on Wednesday 26 October and Thursday 27 October from 10.30 – 11am.

Families can collect an art trail from Shirley Library or download a trail from Visit Solihull online here .
